Blue Day

Our big annual fundraiser

Blue Day was our annual city-wide fundraiser and it played a massive part in us reaching our £1million target!

We ran 12 Blue Days and we’re so pleased that Priory School is running the fundraiser from 2019!

Blue Day 2019 will take place on May 3. Want to get involved? Contact Priory school to sign up.

So what’s Blue Day all about?

Blue Day is about the community of Portsmouth coming together to have a day of fun, whilst supporting our great local charity. And from 2019, all the funds raised will go to the Tom Prince Osteosarcoma Research Project.

Blue Day celebrates the city and also Portsmouth Football Club. The first one was held in April 2008 in celebration of the football club reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup. The city of Portsmouth was swept up in Pompey blue fever and we turned it into a massive fundraiser where everyone wore blue and organised fun fundraisers for us!

And every year since, schools and local businesses have joined in and turned the city blue. From sports contests to sitting in a bath tub of cold baked beans, from abseils to sing-a-thons and quiz nights, and more blue cupcakes than you can count – we saw all sorts of wonderful fundraisers! The Spinnaker Tower even went blue, Pompey players wore Blue Day shirts on the pitch, and people from businesses large and small looked fantastic in their blue clothes, wigs and face paint!

Priory school and Blue Day – May 3 2019

Tom’s old school, Priory, will run the annual fundraiser from 2019.

Headteacher Stewart Vaughan said:

“To get involved was an easy decision and this is an opportunity to remember Tom and show our respect for the work his family has done.”

‘This feels very personal to us because we were with Tom throughout his education and his illness.”

“We hope to get as many partners in the city involved in Blue Day because it is wonderful event that brings people together in the community.”

Blue Day will relaunch on May 3 2019 – and we can’t wait to see the city turn blue again as it has done for the last 12 years.
