High Sheriff of Hampshire Community Award PDF Print E-mail

March 2014

We are thrilled to announce that the Tom Prince Cancer Trust has been awarded the High Sheriff of Hampshire Community Award.

 High Sheriff Awards

The High Sheriff is one of the oldest Crown Offices, dating back to before the Battle of Hastings. As part of his role, the Sheriff grants awards to volunteers within the community, and organisations staffed by volunteers, who deserve special recognition for their good work.

We are so very grateful for the award; it is a real honour to have been selected from all of the wonderful individuals, organisations and charities doing great work within our community. We shall frame the certificate and hang it with pride! The award belongs to everyone of you that has volunteered for the Trust over the years, and those whose support enables us to continue fund-raising.

We were presented the award at a wonderful ceremony in the Great Hall of Winchester; an awe-inspiring venue that houses the famous Round Table of King Arthur. There was a champagne reception and the room was packed full of dignitaries, including several Lord Mayors and the ITV reporter and novelist Tom Bradby, as well as the other well-deserved winners and nominees.

It was an emotional evening, hearing about all the dedicated volunteers who work behind the scenes to improve the lives of others. From those volunteering in night shelters for the homeless, to those running sports clubs and social events for their communities, there was a whole lot of love in the room!

We would like to thank the High Sheriff of Hampshire, Rupert Younger, for the award, and the Award Panel Chair for the Portsmouth District, Dean Rockett, for nominating us. It really is a wonderful honour for the Tom Prince Cancer Trust.

We would also like to thank the students from the University of Winchester who recorded a video of the Trust for the event; which we will upload to the website in due course.

The awards will feature in the May edition of Hampshire Life Magazine
